From my experience, music elitists tend to be friends. This allows them to have vocal opinions about you and anything you do for the most part. Music is an easy target for your music elitist friends since...you know...it's music. Sure, it's only an opinion from a friend, so you can take it to heart and listen to it. But what if you didn't ask for it? What if you're just sitting, chilling, and listening to music, and your friend comes up to you and asks what are you listening to. You tell him or you let him hear, and he acts like you just insulted him sort of. He's pretty much disgusted in your taste in music and goes off talking about music he listens to when you didn't even ask him what he thought.
Those people are music elitists if you were wondering. I'm sure you've met them at one point or another, and as I said, I have friends who are these kinds of assholes. I can be listening to rap (Example: pretty much anything made by or featuring Rick Ross). My friend, whom I'll nickname Steve, is saying shit like "You listen to this garbage? You fucking suck for having shitty tastes."
Me: "Fuck you. I didn't ask you and I don't give a damn about you or your opinions."
Steve: ";_; Well I'm right...I mean this is pretty bad stuff you're listening to. Hustlin' is annoying."
Me: "To you."
Steve: "To me, the one with the awesome taste in rap."
I'm a pretty open-minded guy. I'll sometimes ask him for recommendations and he does not disappoint much, but that attitude is what's truly annoying. And, even though I'm using him as an example, I'm acquainted with a number more and I've heard of people going through the same thing.
What's hilarious is what all of these elitists have in common - all of them would like to suck the dicks of artists that are under Indie labels.
The irony of all of this is that I'm listening to Nujabes at the moment.

they are just a bunch of conformists hanging on the words of a few failed artists, critics who can talk shit about musicians but who can't make music themselves.
next time, bash some random artist they're listening to and recommend something you just fucking make up. then ask them what they think of your fictional musician later. if they don't make up something, i'll buy you a pair of shoes.
Music elitists…yeah they’re lame but isn’t everyone partially biased to the music of their liking? We all have our personal taste in music and when people don’t listen to a particular genre a natural reaction is a look of disgust.
As much as I hate when people diss my music choice, I am definitely one to turn my nose at people who listen to mainstream pop music and death metal screams. I just don’t really care for such garbage. However, on the flip side, I look very highly to people that are educated enough to listen to quality music, however I would not care to suck the dick of artists under Indie labels, sorry.
God I hate music elitists. Why does it matter what other people listen to. The only time it should make a difference (as it does in my case)is when someone's music interferes with someone else. My roommate blasts rap music all the time and rap is not my favorite music. I respect it. But when the bass is thumping so hard that my book shakes on my desk is when music becomes a problem. Now if he was listening to some music that I liked I probably wouldn't give a shit. But I did so he should turn it down or put on headphones. I wear headphones because I know my roommate isn't into the same genres as I am. That way we don't clash. But I never turn my nose at his style of music, just his volume.
